Cupcake and Macaron Tour, London – Review

My cousins and I enjoy a sweet treat or six. So when my cousin kindly invited us to join her on a cupcake and macaron walking tour around London there was only one answer- YES!!!

The tour started off in a refined location of Ladurée in Covent Garden. Inventor of the sandwiched macaron, Parisian institute and such a beautiful start to the tour. A must on any foodie bucket list.

We nipped around the corner to full fill the cupcake aspect of the tour at BB Bakery. Based on French tea rooms, decked out flowers and dainty china, also owns of the Afternoon Tea Bus Tour, we nibbled on a fresh raspberry cupcake. Perfectly formed and fresh than overly sweet which unfortunately most cupcakes fall into by having a raspberry nestled in the middle.

Striding through China Town, we continue on to find the new sugary treat.

Landing upon Wardour Street, Soho one of me and my cousins favourite foodie streets. No cupcake tour would be complete without a trip to the bakery which played an integral part in bringing the popular American treat of Red Velvet to the UK.

Hummingbird Bakery pile clouds of cream cheese frosting on top of the vibrant red cupcake with a hint of chocolate and a scattering of those bright crumbs. A few of the ladies on the tour saved theirs for later, we jammed ours straight into our mouths to enjoy!

Round the corner is Yauatcha, where I have pressed my nose against their windows to have a glimpse of the colourful and intricate patisseries many times on my way. Creating macarons in some unusual and exciting flavours such as Popcorn, Matcha and Yuzu and Cashew Sesame.

We could choose two flavours each and I went for the Cinnamon Raisin and the Yuzu. However with so many flavours on offer all four of the cousins went for all different flavours to try so that we could try more!

My favourite was the Cinnamon Raisin, the combination of warming spice and plump raisins were simply delicious.

So my family members are completely normal and sane…

Had been a few minutes from our last cupcake so was due the next sugar hit. The newly opened Crumbs & Dollies would serve that purpose perfectly. Nestled down the side of Kingly Court is a haven of sweet treats.

With so many great flavours you choose from, there was a lot of tough decisions to be made, but when I laid my eyes on the petite and perfectly formed Caramel Pretzel Cupcake, I knew I was in love.

Look just how cute it was!

A great combination of creamy, crunchy and salty perfection!

We ended on a classy high, one of the most famous food halls in the world, Fortnum & Mason. Gleaming glass cases of rows and rows of perfectly formed cupcakes and patisseries to delight the eye and stomach.

I took for my journey back home a petite Salted Caramel cupcake to help my withdrawal symptoms from all the days sugar. With the salt level cutting through the sweetness to a more balanced little treat.

As ever I had such a wonderful day with my cousins with copious amounts of cupcakes and macarons. Who needs sane normal cousins when you can roam around London with T-Rex claws out?!?
